Tino Cavarra, together with his wife Giuseppina Frontino and their daughter Debora, manages with passion and know-how a splendid estate in Buccheri, near Syracuse. The name "Terraliva" is derived from "Terre delle Alive", which means land of olives. The olive grove, entirely organically grown, is made up of local Sicilian varieties, the Tonda Iblea, the Nocellara Etnea and the Nocellara del Belice.
The olives are harvested exclusively by hand so as not to damage the olives, and the oil is then extracted with close control of the exposure to oxygen and temperature variations. Attention to detail has made Terraliva oils some of the most awarded in Italy, including in the Gambero Rosso.
Tino is keen for his oils to be traceable and has invested in blockchain technology so that the journey from the olive to us can be traced by a QR code on each bottle. The oils are all certified PGI Sicily, Kosher Halal, in addition to the organic certification.
