In 1978 Karl Egger left his native Bavaria in Germany and moved to Tuscany in search of authentic and healthy food. He bought an abandoned 7-hectare property in the Tuscan Maremma, called La Selva, to grow vegetables and fruit in a natural way. This was the beginning of an epic journey for this pioneer of organic farming in Italy, LaSelva becoming the first producer outside Germany to be certified organic by the Naturland association. LaSelva mainly produces canned freshly picked fruits and vegetables. The famous tomato passata is recognised by the Italian Gambero Rosso food guide cas one of the best in the country. In more than 40 years, the farm has expanded to over 800 hectares and now offers a wide range of gastronomic products, a wine cellar and even guest rooms in its "agriturismo". In 2016, Karl Egger retired and handed over to Christian Stivaletti, who continues Karl's work: offering tasty food, good for the health and the environment in which it is produced.
